DERBY BEER FESTIVAL TRIUMPH

Last weekend saw the Derby city charter beer festival take place in a marquee in Derby market place. Despite the typical British summer weather a great time was had by all. Among the wonderful beers available to sample was Offilers’ best bitter brewed by Heritage Brewing Company.

Offilers’ was a significant Derby brewery which dominated the brewing and pub scene in Derby up until the 1960’s when it was bought out by Bass. Heritage Brewing Company have recreated Offilers’ Best Bitter by being true to the original recipe whilst brewing a very drinkable beer for the modern palate.

THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES…

Planning Solutions, owner and operator of Heritage Brewing Company, which already manages a hugely successful high and low-ropes aerial adventure course at its award-winning CONKERS Discovery Centre, in Leicestershire, launched Vertigo Adventures Stanborough Park on June 25 – and it promises to be one of the toughest in the UK. With zip-wire action, breathtaking plunges and daring challenges to test even the hardiest of thrill seekers, Vertigo Adventures has something for all ages and abilities. The 10ft Monkey Trail is the perfect starting point for anyone aged five and above, with nine elements to tackle from Sky Islands to Twin Tube Tunnels. Those with a real head for heights can move on to the Hawks View, with more than 20 elements to test your nerves. At over 40ft high, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of 126 acres of award-winning parkland as you tackle the Trapeze Walk like Tarzan and soar across the Zip. Then it’s decision time: take the Kitten Bridge (red route) or be a total daredevil and go for the Totem Poles (black route) before finishing off on Indians Bridge. If you’ve got what it takes to Plummet from the Summit then take a leap of faith on the powerfan and enjoy the drop! Or maybe take on the Flying Fox and fly down the 50m-long zip from the top of the tower. If you’re still craving more, you can take on the Crazy Climb and see how far you can ascend the tower before coming back down to earth. Just clip and go! Vertigo Adventures is in Stanborough Park (North) on Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City, just off J4 of the A1(M) between Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City, and 20 minutes by train from London Kings Cross. BOTTLING HALL REFURBISHED

Heritage Brewing Company has the great benefit of, along with the brewery, having purchased a bespoke bottling plant. As with the brewery, both the bottling hall and the plant needed cleaning, painting and refurbishing.

This has been a big project involving repairing the roof, fixing leaks, painting the entire building and having the engineers from CIME in Italy come out to refurbish the plant. All of that has now been done and the plant will be bottling beer shortly.

APRIL FOOL’S DAY DELIVERY

Heritage Brewing Company decided to have a bit of fun on April fool’s day, delivering a GIANT barrel of beer to the Coopers tavern in Burton upon Trent.

To add authenticity the delivery, the brewers borrowed the vintage horse pulled dray from the National Brewery Centre which was pulled by one of the extremely popular dray horses housed at the museum.

The spoof generated some publicity with an article in the Burton Mail.

ROGER PROTZ VISITS HERITAGE BREWING COMPANY

Legendary beer writer Roger Protz paid a visit to the Heritage Brewing Company, had a tour of the facilities and was duly impressed.

Roger has been a regular visitor to the National Brewery Centre over the years and was delighted that brewing has been reinstated in the William Worthington Brewery with a total commitment to quality and an attention to detail. Roger Protz and master brewer Steve Wellington go back a long way, not least due to Steve’s role as the saviour of Worthington White Shield.

The team retired to the Brewery Tap to test the product which, of course, met with approval.

NATIONAL WINTER ALES FESTIVAL

The National Winter Ales Festival took place at the wonderful roundhouse in Derby, very close to the home of The Heritage Brewing Company in Burton upon Trent.

Visitor numbers were the highest in the history of the event, which, ultimately proved its downfall in that the roundhouse is now not deemed big enough to host the event and it next year will be held in Norwich. Heritage Brewing Company exhibited 2 beers at the festival: Charrington IPA and Offilers Derby Best Bitter, which was appropriate given the festival location. Pictured are some of the Heritage Brewing team along with our CAMRA BLO Jim Ward.
